Lumbini
Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha is in the southern Terai, Nepal. Lumbini has been a holy ground for Buddhists all over the world and listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The restored garden and the surroundings of Lumbini have the remains of many ancient stupas and monasteries. A large stone pillar erected by the Indian Emperor in 250 BC bears an inscription about the birth of the Buddha. An important part of the Lumbini is the temple of Maya Devi along with the pool where Queen Maya Devi is said to have bathed and given her son his first purification bath.
