Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 01
    Kathmandu (1,350m/4,429ft) – Lhasa (3,650m/11,975ft)
    Fly to Lhasa crossing over the highest Himalayan ranges of the world (1hr). Transfer and check in to your hotel. Full rest for acclimatization.

  • Day 02
    Lhasa
    Full days sightseeing tour of Lhasa including Sera & Drepung Monasteries.

    Sera, means “hailstone” in Tibetan. Set at the foot of the Wudu Hill to the north of Lhasa City, Sera is comprised of a great sutra chanting hall and a college. Sera Monastery was founded in 1419 by Jamchen Choje, a disciple of Tsongkapa, the founder of Gelugpa Sect.

    Drepung Monastery, was founded in 1416 by Jamyang Choje, a disciple of Tsongkapa, the founder of Gelugpa Sect. The monastery, occupying an area of 250,000 square meters with a fixed number of 7,700 monks, is the largest monastery in Tibet. The monastery keeps many historical relics, Buddhist scriptures, arts, and crafts.
  • Day 03
    Lhasa
    Full days sightseeing tour of Lhasa including Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Bazaar.

    Potala Palaceis one of most famous architectural works of Tibet and stands on the top of the Red Hill in Lhasa. The word Potala comes from Sanskrit. In the 7th century, it was built for meditational purpose. It was Dalai Lama’s winter palace. Its white part is used for administrative purpose and the red part for the religious purpose.

    Jokhang Temple, situated in the center of the old section of Lhasa called Barkhor, was built in the mid-7th century A. D. It was later extended by successive rulers, and has now become a gigantic architecture complex. Located in the east, and facing the west, Jokhang is a four storied Temple with splendid golden roofs.

    Barkhor Bazaar is a market complex just outside and around Jokhang Temple. It is the main Tibetan bazaar which has been able to sustain Tibetan culture & heritage until today. This bazaar is good for shopping and eating out and also mixing with the local Tibetan people.
  • Day 04
    Lhasa – Gyantse (3,950m/12,595ft): (261 Km / 5-6 Hrs)
    Drive to Gyantse, via Yamdrok Lake. Visit Kumbum and Phalkor Monastery.

    Yamdrok Lake, is one of the biggest and beautiful lakes in Tibet. We pass by this lake with about 2 hours drive along its bank. Yamdrok means turquoise in Tibetan language. In fact, the lake looks exactly as beautiful as turquoise blue during the good weather days.

    The famous Kumbum, a combination of pagoda and stupa arts, stands with nine storeys with its 108 doors and 77 chapels contaning clay sculptures and various murals. The pagoda is said to have 100,000 images of Buddha either sculptured or painted.

    Phalkor monastery, is the next door monument to the Kumbum. It was founded in 1418. Its role is unique on the Buddhism in Tibet as it represents all the three sects of Tibetan Buddhism: Gelugpa, Sakkyapa and Bhutan.
  • Day 05
    Gyantse – Shigatse (3,900m/12,795ft ): (90 Km / 1.30 Hrs)
    Drive to Shigatse. Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery & Local Market.

    Shigatse, is situated in the southwest of the Tibet Autonomous Region where Nyangchu River joins the Yarlung Tsangpo River. Shigatse is the second biggest town in Tibet and it is the center of transportation and distribution of agriculture and husbandry products from the southeastern part of Tibet. “Shigatse” in Tibetan means the “Estate that fulfills one’s Wishes.”

    Tashilhumpo monastery, is believed to be the most beautiful monastery in Tibet, founded in 1417. The most amazing in this monastery is the giant statue of the Maitreya (Future Buddha) erected by the 9th Panchen Lama in 1914 and took 4 years for its establishment. Fourth Panchen Lama’s funeral stupa was also built in 1662 which is one of the major attraction in the monastery.
  • Day 06
    Shigatse – Saga: (4,640 m): (448 km / 8 – 9 Hrs)
    After breakfast we travel to Saga via Lhatse and along the Brahmaputra River. We stop for a while at Lhatse which is considered as one of the best counties of Shigatse and enjoy the beautiful landscape. Overnight at Hotel in Saga.
  • Day 07
    Saga – Manasarovar: (4,590 m): (480 km / 8 – 9 Hrs)
    A longer day’s drive today, 480 km approx 8-9 hrs From Saga, we set out across the plains to Manasarovar located just 30km south of Mt Kailash. The lake is separated from another lake, Rakshas Tal, myth has it here Ravana prayed and had the audience with Shiva. Overnight at Guest house Lodge.
  • Day 08
    Manasarovar – Darchen: (4,575 m): (45 km / 1 Hr))
    After Breakfast walk nearby Lake Manasarovar then we drive for about 45 km towards Darchen, the Base Camp of Kailash where we take a rest and prepare for next day trek.

    Optional: Manasarovar Kora by environmental protection vehicle then drives to Darchen. Overnight at Hotel.
  • Day 09
    Darchen – Dira-Puk: (4,860 m): (13 km drive – 20 min & 7 km Trek 5 – 6 Hrs)
    Drive about 13 km to Tarboche, this is the starting point for our Kora, the 35 km trek around the mountain. From Tarboche, we walk up the Lha Chu Valley through beautiful green meadows and streams with Mt Kailash towering above us. Those who do want wish to trek around Kailash can go back to Manasarovar or Darchen and wait for the Kora group to return. Overnight at Guest house Lodge.
  • Day 10
    Dira-Puk – Zutul-Puk: (4,760 m): (18 km Trek / 9 – 10 Hrs)
    We now leave the Lha Chu Valley and enter the Dolma Chu Valley, heading up towards a high pass, the Dolma La (5650m). It’s a tough climb to the summit which is festooned with prayer flags but from there it is all downhill or flat to Zutul-puk. Overnight at Guest house Lodge.
  • Day 11
    Zutul-Puk – Darchen and drive to Saga: (4,590 m): (10 km Trek /4 – 5 hrs & 495 km drive 7 Hrs)
    On the final day of the Kora we cross several streams. We then enter the Bharka plain and it’s about an hour’s walk through this desert-like landscape to Darchen. We board the car waiting at Darchen and drive approx 1 hour to Manasarovar take a short break before we continue driving along a stretch of road to Saga. Overnight at Hotel.
  • Day 12
    Saga – Kerung: (2,790 m): (169 km / 6 – 7 Hrs)
    Morning after breakfast drive to Kerung, on the way we may catch a glimpse of himalaya, high pass over 5000 m and Piku Tso Lake. Today, the difference in landscape is quite special-the barren rugged landscape of Tibet to the mighty Himalayas, where the scenery changes to rich forests, typical of the Nepalese foothills. At the recent earthquake in Nepal, it serves as the main port of entry into Tibet when coming overland to and from Nepal. Overnight at Hotel.
  • Day 13
    Kerung – Kathmandu: (1,300 m): (157 km / 8 – 9 Hrs)
    After breakfast, drive downhill to reach Chinese immigration (Rasuwa Gadi bridge, 24 Km approx. 01 hr.) After completing immigration process, we walk through the Bridge where our vehicle from Nepal side would be waiting. Then drive to Immigration office for necessary formalities in Nepal side. Later continue drive to Kathmandu.
